What is a B-1 Visa?

A B-1 visa is a nonimmigrant visa that allows foreigners to enter the United States for business purposes. This includes activities such as attending business meetings or conferences, negotiating contracts, and consulting with associates.

B-1 visa holders are not permitted to work in the United States. If they wish to do so, they must obtain a different type of visa that allows employment, such as an H-1B visa.

To be eligible for a B-1 visa, applicants must demonstrate that they:

  • Have a legitimate reason for coming to the United States
  • Intend to stay in the country for a limited period of time
  • Have ties to their home country that they are not abandoning
  • Will not be a burden to the U.S. government
  • Have enough money to support themselves during their stay

B-1 visas are often used by businesspeople who want to come to the United States for short-term business activities. For example, a foreign national might come to the United States on a B-1 visa to attend a business meeting, sign a contract, or consult with associates.

B-1 visas are typically valid for the duration of the applicant’s specific business activity, plus a grace period of up to one month. This means that B-1 visa holders can stay in the United States for up to six months at a time.

Those who want to stay in the United States for longer periods of time or engage in activities not allowed under a B-1 visa will need to obtain a different type of visa.

What is a B-2 Visa?

A B-2 visa is a nonimmigrant visa that allows foreign nationals to enter the United States for tourism or business purposes. This type of visa is also sometimes referred to as a visitor visa.

To be eligible for a B-2 visa, applicants must prove that they have ties to their home country and that they will return there after their stay in the United States. Applicants must also show that they have enough money to support themselves during their stay and that they have no intention of immigrating to the United States permanently.

The length of stay granted with a B-2 visa varies depending on the individual circumstances but is typically between six months and one year. Extensions may be possible in some cases.

The B-2 visa allows holders to engage in activities such as tourism, visiting friends or relatives, business meetings or consultations, and academic conferences. It does not allow for work in the United States, with the exception of some forms of volunteer work.

Why Should I Hire a B-1 and B-2 Lawyer?

There are many reasons why you may need to hire a B-1 and B-2 lawyer. Perhaps you are planning to travel to the United States for business or pleasure and need to obtain the proper visa. Maybe you have already been denied a visa and need help with the appeals process. Whatever your reason for needing a B-1 and B-2 lawyer, it is important to choose someone who is experienced in handling these types of cases.

A good B-1 and B-2 lawyer will be able to help you with all aspects of your case, from the initial application process to appealing a denial. They will also be familiar with the different types of visas available and can help you choose the one that is right for your needs.
